How the Poultry Butler Works
Light Sensor Operation

In this mode the unit will operate on either 110VAC or 12VDC and is triggered by light levels. The approaching darkness
causing the door to close. Sunrise will trigger the door to open. The unit has been calibrated to close as near to dark as
possible so that in most situations the birds have already returned to roost. The sensor should be mounted so that it sees the
setting sun and is not shaded by trees or objects. This will help in preventing the door from closing prematurely. Artificial
light sources should also be considered since they may trigger the unit to open at night. Periodic power outages and changing
seasons will not affect the open and close times.
Timer Operation

In this mode the unit will only operate on 110VAC. Door operation is governed by set times you establish. When the timer plug
is on/activated the door will open. Off and the door will close. The door can be opened and closed multiple times depending
upon the timer purchased. An inexpensive vacation light timer that permits you to vary the “hours on” cycle is all that is
needed. Timer mode should be considered if your coop is heavily shaded, located in a valley where the sun sets early or you
have birds that roost late. Periodic power outages will affect the open and close times requiring periodic adjustment. You
will need to provide the timer. And a duplex power outlet is required.
